Good news, but not unexpected

She looks like she's been on a ten day bender in this picture, but this really is the worst of how her eyes have been.

We noticed sometime last summer that Rowan had a lump on her eye lid.  It being summer, we thought it was just a bug bite and didn't really think much of it, especially when it went away.  But then it came back.  In the other eye.  Then went away.  Then came back.  In the bottom lid this time.  You can see where I'm going with this.  With one of the ones on her bottom lid, I managed to turn her eye lid and it looked like a pimple, so I thought it was a stye, but she said they didn't hurt and I think styes usually do.  Finally in December we decided we should get it checked out.  Saw the doctor, he gave us a referral to an ophthalmologist.  A few weeks go by.  No appointment letter or phone call.  Then Rowan got an eye infection in one eye.  Not pink eye, thankfully, but we headed back to the doctor.  Our referral hadn't gone in.  Frustrating!  He resubmitted the referral and then I drove around for almost two hours looking for a pharmacy that had the antibiotic gel in stock for said eye infection.

We finally got the referral for the ophthalmologist, then waited two more months for the appointment.  Sigh.  Appointment was today and we found out: she has chalazions.  Yup.  I've never heard of it either, but researcher James called it.  Don't ask me how he did it, he's awesome.  Basically, you have ducts that run through your eye lid and out at your eye lashes and sometimes they get clogged up.  When they do, they get inflamed and swell up.  Annoying, funny looking, but not dangerous.  Basically we need to keep her from rubbing her eyes (yeah right, she's two!), make sure we wash her eye lids really well in the tub and use a hot compress to take the swelling down when they do flare up.  The alternative...surgery.  NOT an option we want!  It's day surgery for an adult, but because they have to drain the gunk out and she's a toddler, they'd have to knock her out.  PASS!!  So, we'll keep her eyes clean and will use warm compresses.

We also found out...SHE'S STILL BABY WATRIN IN THE HEALTH CARE SYSTEM!!!!!!  I've had at least four people try to get her name right.  Maybe by the time she's in high school?
