The End is Nigh

I think it's actually been coming for a while now, but we're down to only nursing a few days a week these days. I miss it already! Nursing has been one of the most wonderful experiences I've had since I've become a mom. Well, when it's working. Anyway, Rowan has never been one of those kids who nursed a lot or really asked to nurse, but usually when I offer, she takes me up on it. A few months ago, we stopped nursing at night. She's always so tired after daycare, she was too tired to nurse and wasn't nursing well. She didn't seem to mind when we dropped that nursing. That put us down to once a day: first thing in the morning.
So we get up at 5:30 or so and she nurses before I leave for work. But for the last few weeks, she's been turning down a few nursings a week or so. Part of it I think is that she's just too excited to get going in the morning. She wants to run around, play with anything she can get her hands on and start her day. She does still nurse a few days a week, which is good for both of us. It throws off my day a bit when she doesn't nurse. It think it'll be a harder adjustment for me than it will for Rowan. Just like daycare! Although she did ask to nurse this afternoon, which is odd for her to ask, but very nice. I have to keep remembering: things change. It's just really hard when I've spent the last 16 months defining myself as a breastfeeding mom. I'll miss that look on her face while she nurses and the cute little giggle she gives just before she latches. Everyone was right! They do grow up too fast!
