So these are some of the things that Rowan has taught me over the last almost 18 months. In no particular order:
-The kitchen floor is never clean enough. It really doesn't matter how often you wash and or sweep the floor or vacuum the carpet, there are so many little bits that kids pick up that you don't even notice until Rowan finds them.
-Most things that Rowan picks up off the floor taste good for the first couple times, then...not so much. Good examples: Celtie hair, leaves, cat claws (gross!) and I'm sure I've missed some things.
-Teething turns kids into Saint Bernards. Seriously. I think there are some molars coming in right now because of all that drool and the other day when she shook her head, spit literally flew across the TV. Ewww!
-Greasy finger prints on my glasses are awful. I have apologized to my Mum for every time I ever licked her glasses.
-It is possible for a child to throw up in the middle of the night and not wake us up, even with the baby monitor on. I think Rowan and I ate something that disagreed with us a while ago. I woke up around midnight puking. When we went to get Rowan up in the morning, she was sleeping in a puddle of puke. Poor kid. We cuddled on the couch a lot the next day. Been fine since. Although even a bath that morning couldn't get rid of the puke smell.
-Hearing her say "Mommy" and "Mom" and having her lean in for a kiss is one of the best things in the world! And no matter how terrible work was, or how rough a day we've had, a smile and a giggle make everything better.
-Nursing was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done. She weaned about two months ago and I think I miss it more than she does. Despite the rough patches we went through, when nursing was going well, it made me feel like I was exactly where I was supposed to be, doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing and that everything was good and right in the world. Cheesy, but true.
-Also cheesy: she's turned me into a total softy! I love watching crime shows and have watched them for years and they never bothered me before. Now...we watch a show that has something to do with kids, childbirth, nursing moms (an awful scene of a mom getting shot while nursing in a movie comes to mind), it all makes me weep. Sometimes all out bawl. What's even crazier is that James tears up too.
-Everyone is right: they grow up way too fast! We took a ton of pictures and it still doesn't seem like we took enough.
-The downside to digital cameras: Yes, you can delete all those blurry pictures when she moved or you didn't catch her doing the adorable thing she was doing two seconds ago, but it also means that we never print pictures anymore. That's why we really don't have a lot of pictures to send out to people.
-You can suck a soother with a stuffed nose. Really. Rowan's proved it.
There are so many other things, but I can't think of any more right now and I could be here all night! She's so wonderful and we are incredibly lucky to have her. Now I'm getting teary, so I should call it quits. But I'll end on a funny note:
