A Little Bit Crazy & A Little Bit Fun

As some of you may or may not know, one of my best friends is going through chemo right now.  She was diagnosed a little over a month ago with Hodgkins Lymphoma, but is doing absolutely amazing!  She's embracing this craziness with such a positive attitude that all I can do is think, "Wow!"  A little over a week ago, she decided to cut all her hair off because the chemo was making it fall out.  It looks absolutely amazing!  She also did a great picture copy of herself as the "We Can Do It" girl from the USA WWII ads.  Awesome!  She awes and inspires me everyday and I'm so proud of her!  I'm sure you can see where this is going...
Before...

I haven't had a REAL hair cut in years.  When Rowan was born, I just kinda let it grow and just trimmed the split ends.  I've had long hair for most of my life.  As soon as I was old enough for Mum to let me grow it, I started to.  I've had it almost down to my butt at the longest and the shortest I think I've ever cut it was to my chin.
Craziest pigtails ever
When Sarah and I were talking about her chemo, I told her I wanted to cut my hair when hers fell out.  She said, "Oh Bob!  My sister said she would too, but I can't have bald posse!"  And I said, "Why not?"  Who wouldn't want a bald posse?!  We'd rock it!
The first cut
Now, I'm not going to lie.  I was scared.  I have NEVER done this before, but I was committed to it.  I also cried a little as we did it, but it wasn't all sad, it was triumphant, goofy and freeing!  Why do we as women have to have hair to be women?  Answer: WE DON'T!
The first feel of my new do
I asked another one of my best friends, Danica, to do it for me.  I trust her with my hair and she has training.  Plus, I knew it would be more fun than doing it in a salon.

We cut it in a way that, if she wants to, Sarah can take the hair to be used to make a wig for herself.  Since I haven't colored my hair in years, it's actually able to be used.  If she decides not to get a wig made or not use my hair for it, she can donate it to be made into wigs for other cancer patients.

After! Look at all that hair!
You really have no idea how much hair you have until you cut it all off!  We did it yesterday and it still feels weird.  I can't stop touching it and running my hands through it.  I haven't had my hair this short since I was about four years old!  Rowan told me I looked very pretty (without any prompting from Dad, or so he says) and everyone who's seen it at work loves it so far.  I've even had a couple of coworkers rub my head already.  I'm not sure how long I'll keep it this short (tee hee, see my little funny there?), but I did it!  Now, if I could just figure out how to style it...
