Walking & Using Big Words

Try and try again

She's a walker! Rowan's been trying for a while and I think we can finally say that she's officially walking. It all happened so quick. She was taking tries for a while before Christmas, with what James called being in the "12 step program" when she took 12 whole steps. One day, she just decided she was going to walk no mater what. She'd stand up, take a couple steps, plop down, stand up again, take a few more steps, tip over, stand up again, and on and on. Now she's really got the hang of it. She can walk all around the house, shoes on, shoes off, it doesn't matter. When she's in a hurry, she might try to run, but sometimes she'll still just crawl to where she needs to go. Now of course we really need to be on the ball with keeping the gates up. She wanders over to to the steps when we're upstairs, but doesn't try them on her own. And that's a good thing.

Now I've got it!

Not only is our girl walking, but she's a talking! She babbles pretty much non-stop these days, even in public. She used to to be pretty quiet when we'd go shopping and around people for the first little bit, but not anymore! Not surprising when you know Mom and Dad. She knows lots of words, including "uppy" for up (of course), "kitty" (although sometimes it comes out as "titty"), "puppy", including "boy puppy" for the dogs down the street, "boys" for the boys she plays with at daycare, "bye" for good-bye, sometimes we get "hi", for hello, "dipa" for diaper and I'm sure I'm missing some. I know there are other words in there that we just haven't figured out what she means yet.

Even though she's not saying that many words, Rowan understands a lot. She can go get her blanket, even though when we ask her to say blanket we get "baana" or something like that, I'm not quite sure how to spell it. If I ask her where the kitty is, she'll either point to one of the cats or wander over to them to show me what they're doing. "Where's Daddy?" sees her wander over to wherever James is. She's even managed to fold a diaper liner or two when I ask her to, although I'm pretty sure that's just coincidence. Oh, how they change! When people would tell me how quick it all happens, I didn't really believe them, but now! I love watching her grow, learn and develop, but there's also a small part of me who longs for the days when she just laid there and looked cute, instead of tripping around the house, punching me in the nose, yelling "Kitty!" at the top of her lungs and pulling every condiment out of the fridge she can reach when I leave the door open. And if you've ever been in our fridge, you know that's a lot of condiments.
