So we're trying out a new naptime routine. Rather than me putting her for her nap in the fabulous swing lent to us by my good friend Sarah, I'm taking her upstairs to sleep, first in the cradle, then I'll be putting her in the crib. She so far is still sleeping in our room in the cradle, but she's getting just a little bit too big for it. When she flails her arms out, as she does when she's sleeping, she tends to whack them on the sides which startles and wakes her up. Can't imagine why... So sometime in the next couple of days we'll try to transition her into the crib.
I'll miss her sleeping in our room though. It's nice to know that she's so close, especially on nights when she's having a hard time falling asleep. That way she's nice and close to pop the soother in or rub her tummy. But on the plus side, she'll be nice and close to the change table for when she wakes up in the morning (ridiculously early or just early), I won't have to worry about accidentally kicking the cradle going to bed in the dark (a fear of mine), and Mom and Dad can have privacy, 'cause, you know, privacy's nice sometimes...
First try to nap upstairs started about an hour ago. Not doing too bad so far, I've only done two trips upstairs for tummy rub/pop soother in. On the plus side, all those stairs are great for my butt! So we'll see how it goes.
I have come to realize that the baby monitor is our best friend and our worst enemy. Yes, it lets you know if she's awake or not, but you hear strange noises sometimes. Like her choking. Scary! Just like her Mom, she has a tendency to choke on her own spit now and then, but by the time I'm done freaking and running upstairs to make sure she's not blue, she's sleeping soundly while I try to have my heart attack silently by the door. The monitor is also so sensitive that I can hear the cat in the other bedroom and the toots coming through the monitor right now are rather epic. But the huge loud sigh afterward is what really makes me giggle. How old do you have to be before gas isn't funny anymore?
