For more than just eating!I asked a simple question at the doctor's office and as a result, we just had a wonderful waste of 2&1/2 hours this afternoon. Confused? I'll explain.
At Rowan's 6 month check up, I asked my doctor (a great doc, I've been seeing her for over 10 years and she's awesome, normally non-panic inducing), rather innocently, "So when will she stop 'frog-legging'?" I wasn't concerned about anything, just wondering when she'd stop sucking her knees up to her armpits whenever we lay her on her back. "Oh," she said, "She's still doing that?" She tested her hip joints and scheduled us in for an ultrasound at the hospital, which is the only place that does ultrasounds on babies here.
Ultrasound? Hospital? What's wrong with my baby?!!!!
Then I get a very confusing phone call one day, which took a little work to get out of the lady what it was about. Rowan had been referred to a pediatric orthopedic surgeon, and we had an appointment (which was today) with her at the hospital.
Surgeon? Hospital? What the f#@% is wrong with my baby?!!!!
As it turns out...Nothing. According to the surgeon (who was awesome), frog-legging is good. So is wearing bulky cloth diapers. Her hips are perfect (we had to do an x-ray), they move well, it's good that they spread out and touch the table on both sides, we don't need the ultrasound, "Go home, I don't need to see you again unless there's a problem."
THANK GOD!
Apparently it's worse if baby keeps her legs close together, especially if you're still swaddling them at this point. So let her frog-leg. And don't worry. Well I wasn't, not until we had to come here.
So the moral of the story is...You know, I don't know if there is one. But Rowan's fine, her frog-legs are not only cute, but perfect, and we have an awesome little girl who sat in a hospital waiting room for 2 hours and didn't cry or fuss. Good on her because after a 1/2 hour, I'm fussing.
