I know, I just posted a series of pictures of cake, but that was super fun!
Rowan's birthday really started last weekend with a visit from Gramma Robin and Grampa Henry who came in for brunch with us and Uncle Mark. We had a great time and good visiting. Gramma had the most wonderful bear made for Rowan from a fur coat that belonged to Robin's great-grandma. He's super soft and came with a great description of the coat's history and also how the bear was made. But unfortunately we haven't been able to get a good picture of "Romeo" and Rowan, so I'll have to work on that.
Then yesterday, Gramma Nora and Great-Auntie Christine came in to the city for a visit. We had a quick lunch and then headed for tattoos. Yup, you read that right. We got tattoos for Rowan's birthday. I've wanted another one for years, but just hadn't gotten around to it, so when Mum and Auntie Christine said they were going to come in for one themselves, I jumped on it. Plus it was my birthday present for the next couple years (it took a little longer than I thought it would!). Here it is:

It's a Rowan tree branch. I'm super happy with how it turned out. The artist did such an amazing job. So my first tattoo was for me and this one's for my girl!
Mum got a cat in the waning (waxing? I'm not sure) moon and Auntie Christine got a little truck like her little classic restored truck. Good times.
After the tattooing was all finished, we headed over to Gramma Lynne and Grandpa Doug's for a BBQ and cake. Well, Rowan had cake. I had this awesome chocolate torte...Mmmmm, chocolate. Anyway Auntie's Krista and Jenny were there, as well as their cousin Stephanie. Rowan ate everything. Literally. She had shrimp, cheese, pickled asparagus, spinach dip, bread, steak, potatoes, damn that kid can eat!

Then it was presents from Gramma and Grandpa! Rowan got a great winter outfit that should fit her all winter considering how slowly she puts on weight. And that's the end of our girl's first year! I can't believe how fast time has gone by. Can't wait for next year when she might be able to open presents!
