Our New Reality

I have a job!!!! I finally found a job! Well, I actually found it at the beginning of October, but since I'm a little behind on posting...

I'm bookkeeping, among other things, for a plumbing, heating, electrical and gas fitting company. Try saying that three times fast. Things are great so far. The company is being purchased by a bigger company, which is why they hired me, to take over the books and do some reception work. The good and bad part is that I start at 7am. Good, because it works out really well for day care. James does drop offs at 8:30 and I do pick ups at 4:00. Day care is out in Stonebridge, so while a little far from home, it makes it easy to stop at Wal-mart for a few groceries and stuff if I need and still get home with time to make dinner when it's my turn.

Nursing at 6am...We get company

The bad part is getting up at 5:30. I have come to realize that 5:30am really is the butt-crack of dawn. I mean, 5:30am? Holy crap that's early! I wouldn't have to get up quite so early, but Rowan's still nursing 2-3 times a day, and the one she likes most is the morning nursing. By having that one, it gives James a little extra time before he needs to feed her breakfast in the morning. Plus, she's still not that crazy about cow's milk, so at least if she's still nursing a couple times a day, she's getting more milk.

I'm really enjoying being back at work, but things are crazy busy. After I get home from work, there's usually laundry to do, Rowan quite often wants to nurse when we get home, if it's my turn to make dinner, there's that, then after she goes to bed, I have homework to do. Oh yeah, I'm taking another accounting class too. Am I crazy? Well, yeah, a bit, but I really want to get my accounting certificate, so I have to take at least one class per term to get it by June 2013. That seems so far away right now, but I'm going to do it. I just wrote my midterm and didn't do as well as I have on my other classes, but I still got in the high 70's, so that's alright. The problem is that I'm just a big keener and want to get 80's. As long as I pass everything, employers never look at your grades anyway. Since I'm not going to become a chartered accountant, I don't have to worry about getting higher than a 60 in my classes, but it's a personal thing to want higher than that.

I'm still waiting for EI to approve my claim for the time I was entitled to after my mat leave ran out too. They took so long to review my file, that I had started work before they even managed to talk to my last employer. Hopefully they'll get everything in line this week and I'll get some money from them. Things have been a bit tight, but it was super cool depositing my first paycheck in over a year last week. Can't wait for more of those! It's tough work being a working mom, but I'm up for it. It's just a matter of realizing that you're always going to be this busy and then that's just your new reality. When I'm done my accounting classes, I'll have more time in the evenings after she goes to bed (Sarah, you mentioned "High Heels and Highballs"?), but that's far away. I really miss having time for movies and video games (started Gears 3 this weekend, it kicks ass!), but you do what you have to. And the less time spent playing and watching is more time spent with Rowan, which is the way it should be.
