The Dedication

The invite.
So a week or two ago I got an email from one of my co-workers, Mike. It was an invite to the Dedication of his little boy, Kian (pronounced, Kee-Anne), who was born only nine days after Rowan.

I'll admit I was a little surprised, not only because I was getting invited to what I considered a somewhat private religious ceremony, but because my name was actually on the invitation under the heading Ninongs, with about 9 other guys.

"Hey Mike," I called across my desk to the chirpy Philippino fella sitting nearby, "what's a Ninong?"

"Oh," he says with a big smile, "it means Godfather!"

"Uhhh, um," I stammer.

"Is that ok," Mike asks, suddenly concerned.

Well, what the heck am I gonna say to an honor like that? So I said yes, sure, no problem, and a week later we're quasi dressed up and at Circle Drive Alliance Church.

That there is an attractive family!
It was a small affair, probably only 25 people in all, most of them relatives of Mike and his wife Dian.

Until the last second before the thing started we were the only white people there. Not a problem, mind you, but most of the family were jabbering away in Philippino and I kept hearing the One of these things is not like the other song in my head. But then a couple other folks stumbled in and we began.

It was fun! Good company and after the short ceremony great food, prepared by Dian's mother, who is visiting from the Philippines. The food was really, really good.
Bob & Rowan and Kian & Dian

It was fun watching the kids get along as well, and always a pleasure to see how well Rowan interacts with other children, who she seems to find fascinating.
The cuteness overtakes Daddy's horror at seeing a boy holding hands with his little girl!
