Yesterday we decided to go for a walk with our good friends Sarah and Cassidy while they walked their dogs. It was a bit of a production to get going, like most things now with baby.
First we had to see how her snow suit fit. The proper one for sliding and such is still way too big. Rowan's just a wee little girl, so even some of the 3 month stuff doesn't fit her that well. Her snow bunny suit was way too long in the arms and legs, but she could make a good stand in for Maggie Simpson.
Second was trying to get the Baby Bjorn carrier to work. Like a lot of our big ticket baby stuff, it's borrowed from Sarah and Travis and I haven't used it yet. Still haven't. I tried, I really did, to get the damn thing on, but I just couldn't figure out how the clips worked! I should have taken it to Sarah's to get her to help me, but I just said forget it and took the sled from Gramma Nora.
Third was trying to figure out how to strap the car seat into Sarah and Travis' truck without the base. What a pain! And I'm not sure how safe it is, so I don't think we'll be doing that again. It just didn't seem quite secure enough. For me at least. Call me paranoid, everyone does, but I don't like it when the bucket wiggles. Wiggling in a car seat just seems wrong, you know?
But we got all that sorted and got out to the dog park. And, of course, both girls were asleep when we got there. Typical. Cassidy sometimes has trouble having naps and it was about the time for Rowan's long nap of the afternoon, so it was really tempting just to turn around and go to Tim Hortons, but we soldiered on. The dogs needed to run.
Fourth part of the process: getting Rowan out of her car seat, while asleep, with the wind blasting her in the face and getting her into her snow bunny suit. Because, of course she doesn't fit into the seat in her snow suit, that would be too easy. Got her out of the seat, into her snow suit then into the sled without too much fuss. Now, how to arrange the blanket. Over her face? It blocks the wind and the sun. No, she might smother. Around her face? Still getting blasted by the wind. Sigh. Eventually the blanket just went over her face and she conked out for most of the walk.
As usual, I forgot the camera, which is too bad since Cassidy's sled tipping over sideways while she wore her gigantic glamor girl sunglasses on and this look on her face that clearly said, "Jeez Mom, learn to drive this thing", was priceless.
There were tons of other dogs out as well since it was such a nice day. I don't mind the dogs sniffing the babies, they do smell really nice after all, but I do get a little concerned when there are giant rottweilers and huskies rooting around in the blankets looking for said baby. All I kept thinking in my head was, "Mmmm...babies. The 2 bite snack." Terrible, I know. I didn't actually think that one of them would bite her, but people! Get your dog off my baby! At least there were no dingos. Tee hee. And then to have one girl ask, laughing, "Is there actually a baby in there?" No, honey. I just like to pull a bunny snow suit around in the sled covered with a blanket to fit in. Here's your sign®.
