Mmmm...Sweet Potatoes

That's not cereal!

Okay, but I'm not guaranteeing anything.

Hey! It's not bad!

Camera or food, hmm, what a choice!

No choice at all! Gimme the food!

Loves her food, just like Mom and Dad

Thought we'd try something new today and it worked out well. Rowan likes sweet potatoes!
She's been eating rice cereal for over a week now and no reactions, so I thought we'd give a vegetable a try. It was going to be carrots, but I didn't have enough carrots to put them in the food processor and they sure don't mash very good. So I steamed a sweet potato, mashed it up, mixed in a little breast milk for texture and viola!
She made a funny face at first, as if, "This isn't cereal, Mom", but she wanted more, so I gave it to her. As you can see from the pictures, quite a bit of it went on her hands, face, bib and me, but I think she managed to get a bit down. And it was fun. And I don't mind licking sweet potato off my own hands, but that cereal...sugary glue! No wonder babies like it so much!

I've also gotten some advice and fabulous links from our local La Leche League leader to try to see if we can figure out how to nurse more effectively. We've been having some problems lately and I want to nurse for as long as I can, so I'd like to fix them. Following the advice of the Lactation Consultant was just driving us both crazy: nursing every 2 hours whether she wanted it or not, pumping for half an hour after every feeding. It was a plan meant to increase my supply, but all it was doing was frustrating both Rowan and I. I mean, who wants to eat when you're not really hungry? So I'm back to nursing on demand, when she looks hungry and upping my dose of Fenugreek (supposed to increase supply). I think we're both happier this way. I know my nipples sure are!

And just cause it's cute:
I found my thumb!
